There was recently a car with a broken axel in front of my house that reminded me of some typical human behavior that keeps you from your soul mate. I live close to an intersection in town that recently underwent some construction. In order to widen the road, they closed down the intersection for a few weeks. Like they always do, the construction company set up road signs everywhere announcing the closed intersection. Their signs started at the next big intersection, saying "Road Closed to Thru Traffic." As you got closer to my house, and the intersection, signs every 500 meters or so announced that the intersection was closed. Then, at the brink of construction, there was the familiar road block with the sign “road closed” on it.
This wasn't all too fascinating to me. Anyone who drives has seen these types of signs before. What was interesting was the number of people who drove all the way to the road block before turning around in my driveway to find a different route. They had to pass at least 3 signs, and stop in front of a physical barrier before they were convinced that the road signs were telling the truth. One morning I even woke up to discover a car that had went around the road block and had broken its axle when it fell into the hole on the other side.
Why is it that people refuse to read the signs? The road is closed. Nothing will change that. There is no magical power given to any of us that will open the road to us individually. It is closed whether or not we choose to acknowledge it. Yet, many people still ignore the signs; hoping things will be different for them.
Many of us are this way in relationships. There are telling tale signs letting us know what lies on the road ahead. Many times we ignore the signs of a relationship headed for disaster and end up breaking down at the end of the line. All too often, we also ignore signs that indicate the long term vitality of a relationship and turn around prematurely because of minor bumps in the road.
What are some of the relationship signs or truths that we should be looking for?
Some of the signs are:
1. Understanding how compatible you are with each other.
2. Knowing if both of you are going in the same direction in life. 3. Identifying the universal values like loyalty and trust that must be present. 4. Recognizing the deal breakers that never work in any relationship. Do you know how to apply the signs in your relationship? Do you have the courage to follow the direction they give? Doing so will save you needless heartache and trial and error. Want to know if he's the one? Just look at the signs!
